To do video or not to do video…that is the question. As an entrepreneur or a small business owner we ponder these questions:
• Should we be doing videos for our marketing?
• What about utilizing Facebook Lives?
• Should I include them in my indoctrination e-mail campaigns?
• Which performs better on Facebook – videos or images?
• How about Twitter or Pinterest? Can you even put videos on those platforms?
Well the answer is a resounding “YES.” In fact if you are not using video as one of your tools in marketing your business, you are missing the boat big time. Check out these statistics:
• You can increase your opt in by 174% by using video
• 1 out of 3 Millennials purchase because of video
• 50% on mobile devices decide by video
• 64% of traffic globally is Video
• 88% in the US is Video
VIDEO is the #1 tool that sells your product or service. PERIOD!
When it comes to marketing we want to give our Avatar/Customer valuable content on the platform that they want to consume it. The 3 most common would be Text, Imagery and Video. Some like to read, some like imagery, some like video.
I personally am an auditory and visual person. I like images and I love video. I am the guy that will go to Ikea and buy a cool piece of furniture, get home and go to put it together…and because I would have to read a bunch a directions, I would go straight to the picture and attempt to put it together from matching the picture. When I was done, I would have parts left over that I didn’t know where they belonged! It wasn’t so cool and it didn’t look like the picture at all, because I like to watch. Ikea has since recognized that and for everything you can buy you don’t only have directions and imagery you can google a video on how to put it together.
Now that we have established how important video are you ready to rock out some killer videos.
Oh wait. I forgot you hate doing videos, you don’t like how you look, you don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. The # 1 Fear people have is speaking in front of crowds/ people. Doing Videos is right in there. People fear this so much that will do anything to avoid it. They actually fear it more than death. Which is crazy when you think about it but true.
Do you remember back in school when you had to do a presentation, or book report in front of the class, you faked being sick. You did anything you could to get out of going to school that day, so you wouldn’t have to stand up in front of the class and talk. If you did show up to do it, You would break out in uncontrollable sweat, you would go blank, your voice would crack…all kind of crazy stuff.
What if I could give you the tools to be able to master not only making killer videos for your Social Media Marketing, but also to be able to be comfortable in front of a crowd and rock it like Susan Sly or Tony Robbins? Well I can.
I am a very successful Actor in Hollywood
Best Known for playing Lt.Taggert on ABCs’ General Hospital. I also earned a Emmy for the show The Bay. So I know a little bit about video and how to make it your friend. Along with that, speaking in front of large crowds is part of my job description as I am now a Motivational & Personal Growth Coach.
Here is the thing: it hasn’t always been that way. I use to be exactly like you . I was that kid who did everything and anything to get out of school, so I wouldn’t have to talk in front of the class.
So lets look at some tools, techniques and nuggets that can take you from fearing video to loving it and mastering it.
Let’s look at feeling comfortable in front of the camera. I want you to think of a person, pet or thing that you most feel comfortable with and I want you to first picture yourself with whoever that is. Then I want you to remember one of your cool childhood experiences…it could be anything like riding the bike for the first time. Then I want you to just by yourself visualize telling the story to whoever it is you chose that you felt most comfortable with. Do this several times until you feel very comfortable with this. Once you are rocking this, it is time to go share your story for real. It is time to pull out the camera and tell it to the camera.
This is a very powerful exercise we do as actors. We call it sense memory work.
I do want you to pay attention to a couple of things while you are practicing sharing your story. The reason I picked a child hood memory is because when you start recreating that memory, I want you to pay attention to what you were wearing, what time of day it was, what time of the year, who were you with, what was the weather like etc. The more details you start to remember, the more doors it will open, and you will notice you will start to tap into different feelings. It will bring back certain emotions, some very strong ones. This is a very powerful exercise we do as actors. We call it sense memory work. This is one of the tools we use to bring our scenes to life and it will be a very powerful tool you will use to bring your 30 second story to life every time. The #1 thing you will have to do in your Network marketing and Small Business career as an Entrepreneur is to tell your Story. This tool and exercise will help you to tell a 30 second story that converts every time.
The next exercise is going to be challenging but very important. This personally was probably the hardest thing I had to do as an actor. Watching myself on film. Yeah I know it use to make me cringe as well I would literally turn the volume way down and peek around a corner as I was watching it . I kid you not…when I look back now as I am writing this I am laughing so hard at myself. I share this with you because I want you to know if I can overcome this and become an award-winning actor in Hollywood, you can not only conquer this, but you can crush this.
For this exercise, all you do is just keep watching it over and over again until it becomes comfortable for you. For some of you it may take a couple of times, it may take several or a lot. What I do not want you to do is judge or critique in any way, shape, or form…just watch.
What we’re looking for is that transition from where you are watching you to where you are watching another person talk. When you take the focus off you and put it on to the story being shared.
I will share this with you.
This was a game changer for me. When this million-dollar Ninja Nugget was given to me, I literally went from 6 figures to millionaire. Back in the day when we were with our 1st Network Marketing Company and we were crushing it, they had something called a Rookie Bonus and every 2 weeks you had a chance to win $6,000 for 1st place. We Won 10 consecutive 1st place Rookie Bonuses…pretty cool. Ugh NO… not for me, because every time you won you would have to get on the phone and speak.
I hated that it cause me so much anxiety leading up to the call I would try to find every excuse I could to not get on, worrying about what I was going to say, would I sound stupid, didn’t like sound of my voice etc. Then about the 3rd time I said “I am NOT doing this”. The CEO of the company called me and here is the conversation that changed my life on so many levels for ever, made me the actor I am, the motivational speaker I am, the Author I am. It literally made me who I am today.
Someone needs to hear what you have to say.
He said. “ You are a Believer are you not?” And I said yes, I am. He said “Do you think Jesus is a good speaker?” I said he probably is a great speaker. He said “Do you think he knows what he is saying?” I said “Yeah just a little.” And then what he said next was a major drop the mic moment for me. He said “Then get out of your way and let him speak through you. Stop making it about yourself and being selfish. Someone needs to hear your story. Someone needs to hear what you have to say. Just show up and know that the words you are going to share WILL change at least 1 person’s life . They are waiting even praying for you to show up and share your story.” I said “Wow. Ok then I never thought of it like that.”
I have been doing this a long time, and the reason I have adopted the saying “I will believe in you , till you believe in yourself” Is I recognize how may Champions walk around thinking they are not important. That their words, their story doesn’t matter . I am here to tell you it does, very much. As a matter of fact when you think what you have to say matters the least is when it matters the most.
Okay, now that we are comfortable with ourselves in front of the camera, let’s talk about some specific techniques that can separate you from I am going to say a high 90 % of people that have no clue what they are doing. This will make your videos stand out from all the rest, get people to follow you, trust you and become your loyal customer for life.
Eye Contact is # 1 most important. This is where most Champions blow it. When you are talking to the camera you need to pretend the lens is the eyes of the person you are talking to. Just like you should in real life keep eye contact with the lens and talk to the camera don’t let your eyes wander, don’t do the fake looking around eyes up down etc. You will lose them instantly.
Try this do a video of yourself and purposely look right at the lenses for a little bit then start looking around talking while you are not looking at the lenses and notice how distracting it is and how quick you lose their attention.
My good friend who is the top income earner in another company he averages over 500K a month. The very 1st time I met him I noticed that when he spoke to people he was locked on to their eyes like a heat seeking missile and they had his undivided attention 110 % percent. A major catastrophe could be going on around him and he would not take his focus off of you.
I started working on that skill and took it into my Acting world and my Business world and it was a huge game changer.
Here is another test to confirm what I am sharing with you. Next time you are watching TV pay attention to what you are looking at. You think you are watching the whole picture but now that I made you aware of this. You will notice you are locked into the actors eyes. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE EYES AND EYE CONTACT.
The other technique is camera angle. This is crucial but really simple once you understand it. You always want your camera lens to be at eye level just like you are talking to them eyeball to eyeball.
You NEVER want the lens to be below you that is perceived as you are talking down to them and no one wants to be talked down to. Having the camera lens above you is not the worst thing it actually sometimes can be flattering but if you really want to hit a home run have the camera lens at eye level.
If you put these techniques into action you will be well on your way mastering videos and creating videos that convert for you on your social media marketing.
Have you heard “Knowledge is Power”? I call bull crap ?. I say “Information changes situations, knowledge is the vehicle, and action is power”
So take action today. Right now! Just pick up your camera and lay down a video. Don’t even think about it. This will be your before and you will be amazed what your transformation will be after you put the exercises above into action.
God Bless Coach Réal
